Shiga Ichiko is a Japanese cultural anthropologist and professor at Ibaraki Christian University who studies Daoism, spirit-writing altars and the cult of Lü Dongbin in Hong Kong and South China. Her Kindai Chūgoku no shāmanizumu to dōkyō: Honkon no dōdan to fukei shinkō (Shamanism and Daoism in Modern China: Daoist Altars and Spirit-Writing Belief in Hong Kong, 1999; Chinese translation, Daoism and Spirit-Writing Belief in Hong Kong: History and Identity, 2013) examines the development of late Qing and early Republican Cantonese spirit-writing altars into the Daoist halls of Hong Kong (such as Fung Ying Seen Koon and Ching Chung Koon) and the formation of their religious identity; it is an important work in the study of Hong Kong Daoism.
