Life

Gai Jianmin, director, professor and doctoral supervisor at the Institute of Daoist and Religious Culture, Sichuan University, is a disciple of Qing Xitai. His main research areas are Daoist medicine, Daoist science and technology, and Daoist health cultivation; he has written Daoist Medicine (2001), An Outline of Daoist Scientific Thought, Textual and Historical Studies of the Southern Lineage of the Golden Elixir (Nanzong), and Introduction to Daoist Medicine, among which Textual and Historical Studies of the Southern Lineage of the Golden Elixir is a systematic study of the history and texts of the Southern Lineage founded by Zhang Boduan. Succeeding Qing Xitai, he now directs Sichuan University's institute of Daoist studies and edits the journal Religious Studies, making him an important organizer of contemporary mainland Daoist studies.
