Synopsis
Title Index to Daoist Collections is a practical reference tool for locating Daoist texts, edited by Louis Komjathy and published by Three Pines Press in 2002. The book compiles a cross-referenced index of titles across the major compilations of Daoist literature, covering the Zhengtong Daozang (including its various photolithographic reprints and numbering systems — the Schipper numbering, the Ōfuchi/Daozang subject catalogue, the Hanfenlou volume numbers, and others), the Daozang Jiyao, Texts Outside the Canon, the Dunhuang Daoist Canon, the Zhonghua Daozang, and a number of collections compiled in Japan and Taiwan, allowing researchers to convert and locate texts quickly across different editions and numbering systems. Because the volume and page numbering of the various photolithographic reprints of the Daoist Canon are mutually inconsistent, citation had long been a source of confusion; this book provides a unified cross-reference tool, especially convenient when used alongside the numbering system of Schipper's The Taoist Canon: A Historical Companion to the Daozang. Komjathy also wrote The Daoist Tradition: An Introduction (2013) and Cultivating Perfection (2007, a study of Quanzhen Daoism), and has long promoted dialogue between Daoist scholarship and practicing communities. Reference tools of this kind, though they attract little scholarly acclaim, are indispensable to textual research.
