Overview
Mount Yunmeng lies in the western part of Qi County and is traditionally held to be the place where Guiguzi (Wang Xu), the Warring States strategist of the School of Diplomacy, withdrew to lecture; Su Qin, Zhang Yi, Sun Bin, Pang Juan and others are said to have studied under him here, earning it the name "China's First Ancient Military Academy." Daoism came to embrace Guiguzi as the Immortal Elder of the Mysterious Capital, and the mountain's Guigu Shrine, Water-Curtain Cave, Sun Bin Cave, Self-Sacrifice Terrace, and other structures were expanded over successive eras, with steles recording the work in the Ming and Qing. The mountain still preserves Ming-dynasty cliff carvings and Qing-dynasty steles on its restoration, along with natural features such as the Five-Li Guigu Gorge. Mount Yunmeng is a site where folk Daoism and the legends of the School of Diplomacy intertwine, and it is listed as a National 4A-rated Scenic Area and a Henan Provincial Cultural Heritage Site.
