Overview
Yuhuangding was originally named Yuhuang Ding ('Jade Emperor Summit'), taking its name from the Jade Emperor Temple built atop the hill in the Yuan dynasty; it was repeatedly restored in the Ming and Qing, and during the Guangxu reign the name was changed to 'Yuhuangding.' The temple contains the Jade Emperor Hall, the Hall of the Three Pure Ones, the Lüzu Hall, and the Guanyin Hall, and commands a view over the city and harbor of Yantai. It was made into a park in the 1980s and Daoist activity there was restored; it is the seat of the Yantai Taoist Association. The first-month temple fair at Yuhuangding is a traditional folk custom of the Jiaodong region.
