Overview
Laojun Mountain in Xinjin is traditionally held (according to one view) to be the site of the 'Chougeng Parish,' one of Zhang Daoling's twenty-four parishes; it was an area of Celestial Master activity in the Han and Jin. A temple to Laozi already existed on the summit in the Tang dynasty, and it was repeatedly repaired in the Ming and Qing; the surviving Hunyuan Hall, Sanqing Hall, and Qing-dynasty timber structures and steles remain. The mountain overlooks the Min River and the Five Fords of Xinjin, and is a noted Daoist site in the southern Chengdu Plain. The nearby Baodun ancient city site is a Neolithic-era site. Laojun Mountain is today a Daoist site of activity and a cultural heritage site in Sichuan province.
