Overview
The sixteenth of the Thirty-six Lesser Grotto-Heavens, titled the “Heaven of True Ascension and Mystical Transformation,” governed by the Perfected Liu Shaogong. Identified with present-day Mount Wuyi in Fujian; tradition holds that Emperor Wu of Han sent an envoy to sacrifice to Lord Wuyi, and the Chongyou Temple (Wuyi Palace) was built here in the Tang and Song; Zhu Xi once administered the Chongyou Temple. The mountain is famous for its cliff-suspended boat coffins and the legend of the banquet at Manting (幔亭, Curtain Pavilion), and was inscribed in 1999 as a UNESCO mixed World Heritage Site of culture and nature.
