Overview
The Minglun Sansheng Temple principally enshrines Guandi, who together with Fuyou Dijun and Jiutian Siming Zhenjun is known as the Three Sage Benefactor Lords. Its predecessor was a luantang that opened an altar in a private residence called 'Sanjun Tang' in 1934 (the jiaxu year), originally named 'Minglun Qianyuan' — 'Qianyuan' being a customary name for luantang. The temple's foundation was built in 1967; the deity statues were installed and enshrined in 1975, at which point it was renamed by divine decree as the Minglun Sansheng Temple, and construction of the temple was completed on October 14, 1979 (the years 1975 and 1979 appear separately in different official and media sources). The temple stands at a commanding elevation on the slope of Tiger Head Mountain, overlooking Tiger Head Mountain Park, the Nankan River, and the Taoyuan Martyrs' Shrine. The main hall on the second floor enshrines the Three Sage Benefactor Lords, Guanyin Bodhisattva, Tianshang Shengmu (Mazu), and the Star Lords of the Northern and Southern Dippers; the first floor enshrines the Five Lords Thousand Years, Dizang Wang Bodhisattva, the Star Lord of the Year (Taisui), and the God of Earth and Wealth, and the temple is noted for its nine-dragon relief carving and large bronze statue of Guangong. In terms of the nature of its congregation it belongs to the luantang / Enzhugong cult, and the competent authority registers its religious affiliation as Daoism. The temple building is not registered as a cultural heritage item.
