Overview
The White Cloud Temple, Lanzhou, stands on the southern bank of the Yellow River. It was built in the seventeenth year of the Daoguang era of the Qing (1837) by Husongge, Governor-General of Shaanxi and Gansu, and is dedicated primarily to Lü Dongbin; because tradition holds that Patriarch Lü once manifested here, it is also called the Lüzu Temple. The temple has a mountain gate, an opera stage, a Hall of Patriarch Lü, and a Hall of the Three Pure Ones; modest in scale, it is the only surviving Qing-dynasty Daoist temple in urban Lanzhou. Restored and reopened in the 1980s, it is now the seat of the Gansu Provincial and Lanzhou Municipal Daoist Associations.
