Overview
Yueyang Tower's connection with Daoism comes from the legend of Lü Dongbin's "Three Drunken Visits to Yueyang Tower"; beside the tower stand the Sanzui (Three Drunken Visits) Pavilion and the Lüxian (Immortal Lü) Pavilion in his honor. Mount Jun in Lake Dongting is listed in the Daoist scriptures as the eleventh of the Seventy-two Blessed Lands, "Mount Jun"; it is traditionally said that Ehuang and Nüying, the two consorts of Shun, are buried there, and the mountain has a Xiangfei (Consorts of Xiang) Shrine and the Liu Yi Well, among other sites. Within Yueyang city, the Qianming Temple and the Cishi Pagoda are Buddhist heritage sites. This entry serves as an appendix on Daoism in northern Hunan.
