Overview
Dongzhen Temple is located on Mount Wufeng in Changqing, Jinan. It was founded by the Quanzhen priest Qiu Zhiyuan during the Taihe reign of the Jin dynasty, granted the name 'Dongzhen Temple' by imperial decree in the Yuan, and expanded during the Yuan and Ming; the Ming-dynasty Prince De's family restored it several times and built a cemetery for the princely house nearby. Extant structures include the Jade Emperor Hall, the Hall of the Three Pure Ones, the Zhenwu Hall, and the Bixia Shrine, together with Ming-dynasty steles and Yuan–Ming cliff inscriptions; the Yuan-dynasty Dongzhen Temple Stele within the temple records the spread of Quanzhen Daoism in Shandong. Daoism at Mount Wufeng stands alongside the (Buddhist) Lingyan Temple, and the temple was designated a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level in 2013.
