Overview

Shun Shin Chee Kit Yin Koon originated with the Xinshan Tang in Fangcun, Guangzhou; it was reestablished in Hong Kong in 1972 and registered in 1975 as 'Shun Shin Chee Kit Yin Koon Limited (Non-Profit-Making).' The temple describes itself as belonging to the 'Taiyi Daomen Chunyang' branch, dedicated primarily to Lü Dongbin, with no affiliation to the cult of Wong Tai Sin. It was first based in Sham Shui Po, and later built the Shun Shin Yin Koon as its main hall in Pak Tin Village, Sha Tin, in the New Territories (completed c. 1982–1983), a spacious complex of halls set against the hillside. The temple's motto proclaims 'salvation morning and night, free medicine and consultations, and the distribution of winter clothing, food and blankets in times of disaster,' and charity is its principal work: it has funded the construction of more than eighty schools and two hospitals in Guangdong province on the mainland, and its scholarships have benefited more than ten thousand university students, a notable case of a Hong Kong Daoist hall engaging in mainland philanthropy.
