Overview
The Yuchan Palace, at Wenbi Peak in Ding'an, was built between 2004 and 2007 as a large Daoist temple commemorating Bai Yuchan, the fifth patriarch of the Southern Lineage of Daoism, who was a native of Qiongzhou (Hainan) in the Southern Song. It is the seat of the Hainan Provincial Taoist Association and a memorial center for the patriarchs of the Southern Lineage, with a Hall of Patriarch Bai Yuchan, a Sanqing Hall, and a statue of the Supreme Venerable Sovereign (Laojun), among other structures. Hainan is indeed Bai Yuchan's native place, but historically had few Daoist temples; this palace is a contemporary new construction. This entry serves as an appendix on Daoism in Hainan.
