Overview
Yunlu Palace stands atop Yunlu Peak, the highest point of Yuelu Mountain; it was built in the 14th year of the Chenghua era of the Ming (1478) by Zhu Jianjun, Prince Ji Jian, and expanded during the Jiajing era. It is a Quanzhen Daoist temple in Changsha, dedicated to Zhenwu and Lüzu. Daoist texts list Yuelu Mountain as the 23rd of the Seventy-two Blessed Lands, "Dongzhen Xu Blessed Land." The temple was destroyed during the War of Resistance against Japan and rebuilt in the 1980s; it now has a mountain gate, Lüzu Hall, Xuanwu Hall, and Wangxiang Pavilion, from which one can look down over the Xiang River and the city of Changsha. Yunlu Palace is an important temple of the Hunan Taoist Association, forming, together with Yuelu Academy and Lushan Temple (Buddhist) at the mountain's foot, a configuration in which Confucianism, Buddhism, and Daoism coexist.
