Overview
Baiyun Mountain in Songxian lies in the heartland of the Funiu Mountains; its main peak, Yuhuang Summit, is the highest point of the Funiu range, with a Yuhuang Pavilion built on top, from which one can view a sea of clouds and sunrise. Daoist activity on the mountain can be traced to the Tang and Song, when temples to the Jade Emperor and Zhenwu were built over successive eras on Yuhuang Summit and Baiyun Peak; nearby are scenic sites such as Nine-Dragon Waterfall, Baiyun Peak, and Xiaohuang Mountain. It is now a National 5A-rated Scenic Area and National Geopark; the Daoist temples on the mountain are relatively small in scale, with the natural scenery as the main attraction. It should be distinguished from Baiyun Mountain in Jiaxian, Shaanxi (site of the Ming-dynasty White Cloud Temple), which is covered in a separate entry.
