Life
Cheng Chih-ming is a Taiwanese scholar of religion, professor in the Department of Religious Studies at Fu Jen Catholic University, and former director of the Center for the Study of Religion and Culture at Nanhua University; he studies Daoism, popular religion, and new religious movements. He has written dozens of works, including Chinese Morality Books and Religion, Popular Religious Associations in Taiwan, A Study of the Ming-Dynasty Founder of the Sanyi Teaching, Chinese Society and Religion, Daoist Studies of Life and Death, and Religious Interpretations of Traditional Taiwanese Belief, covering Morality Books, spirit-writing, phoenix halls (luantang), popular sects, and Daoist life-cycle rites; he is one of the most prolific researchers of popular religion and Daoism in Taiwan.
