Life
Zhang Guangbao is a professor and doctoral supervisor in the Department of Philosophy at Peking University, and formerly a research fellow at the Institute of History, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. His main research areas are Jin–Yuan Quanzhen Daoism, Daoist internal alchemy, and the intellectual history of Daoism; he has written Internal Alchemy and Mind-Nature Studies of Jin–Yuan Quanzhen Daoism (1995), Internal Alchemy Daoism of the Tang and Song, New Studies on the History of Jin–Yuan Quanzhen Daoism, and The Fundamental Dao-Theory of Philosophical Daoism and the Mind-Nature Studies of Religious Daoism, making him one of the representative scholars of Quanzhen studies on the mainland; he also edited Western Studies of Quanzhen Daoism from Multiple Perspectives, introducing overseas Quanzhen research. The above is drawn from publicly available academic information. His philosophical analysis of the Quanzhen concept of 'nature and life' (xingming) and his reorganization of Quanzhen historical sources are regarded as representative of the shift in mainland Quanzhen studies from the compilation of sources to interpretation in intellectual history.
