Life

Wang Mu, a native of Hebei, is a modern scholar of internal alchemy and a research fellow at the research office of the Chinese Taoist Association. He studied law in his early years and pursued the study of the Way of the Elixir as an avocation, in the lineage of Chen Yingning's Immortality Studies (Xianxue) and the internal alchemy methods of the Shanxi Longmen lineage. From the 1980s he engaged in research and teaching at the Chinese Taoist Association and took part in teaching at the China Taoist College, writing A Simple Explanation of the Wuzhen pian (1990) and Essential Points of Internal Alchemy Cultivation Methods, and serving as chief editor of Daoist Culture (Daojiao wenhua) and other works, systematically explaining the Wuzhen pian in modern language — an important achievement of mainland internal alchemy research after the reform and opening-up era, and one of the pioneers of the modern scholarly study of internal alchemy. His work brought a relatively clear modern exposition of the Southern Lineage's alchemical methods to both practitioners and outsiders, paving the way for later scholarly research on internal alchemy.
