Life

Tian Chengyang, a native of Shandong, is a Daoist priest of the Longmen lineage of Quanzhen. He left home to become a Daoist on Mount Lao (Laoshan) in the 1980s, later studied at the China Taoist College and stayed on to work at the Chinese Taoist Association, serving as an editor of the journal Chinese Daoism (Zhongguo Daojiao); from the 1990s he lectured on internal alchemy cultivation both in China and abroad, and traveled to Spain and other countries to teach the Dao in the 2000s. His works include The Study of Chinese Daoist Cultivation (two volumes, 1999), Daoist Cultivation and the Nourishment of Life, and A Detailed Account of Immortality Studies, presenting the theory and methods of Daoist internal alchemy cultivation in a systematic, accessible way, making him one of the representative figures within the tradition who openly write about internal alchemy today. The above is public information. His writings address both theory and practice, representing an insider's public account of internal alchemy, and have also drawn scholarly attention to the ways contemporary Daoism is transmitted through internal alchemy.
