Stephen Eskildsen, an American scholar of Daoism, is a professor at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, studying Daoist practice, asceticism and internal alchemy. He has written Asceticism in Early Taoist Religion (1998), The Teachings and Practices of the Early Quanzhen Taoist Masters (2004, an important English-language monograph on the practices of early Quanzhen Daoism), and Daoism, Meditation, and the Wonders of Serenity (2015).
