Life
Hu Fuchen is a research fellow and doctoral supervisor at the Institute of Philosophy, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, a student of Wang Ming, and his main research areas are Daoist internal alchemy and the thought of Ge Hong. His works include Wei-Jin Immortality Daoism: A Study of the Baopuzi Inner Chapters (1989), A General Survey of Daoxue: Daoist Philosophy, Daoist Religion and Immortality Studies, Twelve Lectures on the Methods of the Way of the Elixir, and Daoism and Immortality Studies, among others; he was chief editor of the Great Dictionary of Chinese Daoism (1995), one of the largest Chinese-language reference works on Daoism of the contemporary era. He proposed a research framework of "Daoxue" (Study of the Dao) to encompass Daoist philosophy, Daoist religion and internal alchemy, and is also among the earlier mainland scholars to openly research the practice of internal alchemy cultivation.
