Life

Ding Peiren, a professor and doctoral supervisor at the Institute of Daoist and Religious Culture, Sichuan University, works mainly on Daoist textual studies and the history of Daoism. His representative work, Newly Revised and Annotated Catalogue of the Daoist Canon (2008), builds on Bai Yunji's Detailed Annotated Catalogue of the Daoist Canon to re-examine the authorship, dating and content of every text in the Daoist Canon, and is an important reference work on the Canon today; he also wrote One Hundred Questions on Daoist Texts and Seeking Truth: Studies on Daoist Texts, and edited related compilations for the Compendium of Daoist Ritual Texts, making him a mainstay of Daoist textual research at Sichuan University. The above is drawn from publicly available academic information. His textual work draws extensively on scholarship on the Daoist Canon from China and abroad, providing Chinese readers with a catalogue that can be cross-checked against The Taoist Canon: A Historical Companion to the Daozang.
