Synopsis
The Platform Scripture of the Jade Garden is an alternative name for the Heart Methods of the Dragon Gate Lineage, so called because Wang Changyue set up an altar at the Jade Garden in Nanjing in the early Kangxi reign to confer precepts and give dharma-talks; when Jiang Yuanting compiled the Essentials of the Daoist Canon in the Qing, he included the work under this title. Its chapters largely correspond to those of the Heart Methods of the Dragon Gate Lineage, with only minor discrepancies in individual lectures and wording. The name "Platform Scripture" deliberately echoes the Chan Buddhist Platform Sutra of the Sixth Patriarch, revealing Wang Changyue's intention of incorporating Chan methods and using "mind methods" to govern the precepts. This is one of the more widely circulated editions, and researchers often refer to the two titles together. This entry exists for ease of reference; for full content see "Heart Methods of the Dragon Gate Lineage."
